Waites released this statement after her resignation:

“With profound gratitude in my heart, I express my deepest appreciation for the privilege of serving as a member of this esteemed body. Today, I announce my departure from this role, driven by the constraints of existing Georgia state law which necessitate my vacating the Post 3 At-Large seat to pursue higher office.

After prayer and reflection with my family, I’ve decided to expand our collective efforts and embark on a new journey. Though not an easy decision, I am filled with excitement and optimism for the future. Serving alongside each of you has been an honor and a highlight of my career.

Together, we’ve achieved remarkable milestones, and I’m immensely proud of our accomplishments. As I embark on this new chapter, I am filled with hope and optimism for the future. To my family and extended family, your love and support have been my greatest blessings, and I am profoundly grateful for each of you.

In closing, I look forward to the continued journey ahead, and I am excited about the opportunities that lie ahead for our beloved city. Together, let us continue to work tirelessly to build a brighter and more prosperous future for all.”
